Proposal

Intended Genre and Codes & Conventions:

My magazine is nonconforming. It breaks the ties set by society and focuses solely on women empowerment; including all aspects from different magazines. I decided on producing this kind of magazine genre because I want to be able to speak about all sorts of women stereotypes and issues while going into how women work towards their goals and achieve success in a biased world.

The design scheme will be focused on diversity. The dominant colors will be pink, beige, brown, off-white, and black to imitate different skin tones and maybe light purple and gray to elevate those colors. The images will be combined with real and graphic pictures because the graphics can cover more ground with little access. I have to produce the content. I want real images to be used to showcase the realism and possible interviewee for the stories. The Masthead will be placed centered at the top because it pops at more and it’s one of the first places people look. The barcode will be placed bottom right corner so it does not get in the way from the main image. The overlines will feature the issues being addressed. The slogan is still being decided but it’s leading towards “We Are Women” or “We Are Here” to focus on the fact that this is a women's magazine and society needs to accept women as they are.

Audience:

My target audience is young adult women. I will appeal to this demographic by keeping up with what is popular at the time and change types of images, color schemes, and font text accordioning. The fonts of sharpness and curviness will represent the power women have and the flexibility they have to work with. Depending on the issue, the articles will focus on problems women face everyday and their success either in the workforce or lifestyle matters. This will catch their attention because these topics provide examples of ways to succeed or what other women have gone through and ways to get through it. Anyone who picks up a magazine, picks it up because it has to deal with them one way or the other. The images will be of a beige brown pastel aesthetic as nowadays everyone has an aesthetic and this color combination is popular.

Institution & Distribution

The magazine publisher will be Condé Nast because they have many women magazine publications like Vogue and Glamour. The release frequency would be every month. The magazine will be print and digital, costing $24.99 every year for access to both. There will be other stories not included in the magazine and those stories will be for free but they need to create an account to read it. Now, for stories in the magazine one story will be free on the website but the rest of the content requires a subscription.

Marketing:

I would promote my magazine through online advertisements focused on women products, women entertainment, and high school and college students. To gain attention upon release, I would post promotions and graphics about the new up incoming magazine and contact other social media accounts and organizations focused on women empowerment to promote it amongst their followers. To maintain interest, I would post frequently, promoting new stories that would not be featured in the magazine but still important stories focusing more on trending topics and recent issues. To read these stories they would need to create an account and when new stories are posted they will receive a notification to check it out.
